What is required to obtain documents from the Czech Civil Registry Office?
First and foremost, we need a power of attorney to request any documents from the Czech Civil Registry Office. We can’t obtain documents without official authorization, as we are third parties and require formal consent from the individuals named in the civil records.
Obtaining the power of attorney is very solvable (it`s not a big problem to do it). Every time someone has contacted us, we’ve found a simple solution. How and where the power of attorney should be certified depends on the location of the person signing it. In the vast majority of cases, it can be certified Czech consulate/embassy or by a notary in your area.
We will prepare the specific text of the power of attorney for you and, after clarifying the details, will provide you with instructions on how and where to have it certified.
Depending on the type of document, the power of attorney must be signed as follows:
- Marriage Certificate – must be signed by at least one of the spouses / marrieds
- Birth Certificate – must be signed by at least one parent listed on the certificate, or by man who was born.
- Death Certificate – this situation is more complex. Typically, Czech death certificates include representatives of the deceased or direct heirs. Ideally, the power of attorney should be issued by a person named in the certificate. Often this is the surviving spouse or the deceased’s children. If no individual is clearly listed, a power of attorney from a close relative is required - most commonly from the children. In addition, the family relationship will need to be proven with supporting documents, such as a birth certificate. Each case is individual - please contact us, and we will review your situation and find the best solution.
For other documents, please inquire individually.
Once the power of attorney is notarized, we will need the original in the Czech Republic. Please send the document to us by mail. If necessary, we will arrange for a local translator in the Czech Republic to translate it into Czech.
Frequently Asked Questions about Documents from the Czech Civil Registry Office
Can I obtain Czech Civil Registry Office documents remotely, without coming to the country in person?
Yes, the process can be completed remotely without any issues. However, we will need a power of attorney from the individual(s) related to the requested documents (see the section above on this page).
Can an apostille be placed on the obtained documents?
Yes, we can arrange for the apostille to be placed on the documents. This is usually done promptly, but please confirm with us whether you will require this service.
How quickly can I get a document from the Civil Registry Office?
Document procurement is typically quite fast – usually within 1 to 3 business days. However, the main factor is how quickly you are able to prepare the power of attorney and have it delivered to the Czech Republic.
Civil Registry Office Documents in Czech - Is Translation into Another Language Possible?
Yes, absolutely. We can arrange for translation into any other language, and we’re referring specifically to an official, certified translation. However, it’s important to confirm the translation requirements based on where the document will be used.
In most cases, we recommend having the translation done by a certified translator in the country where the document will be submitted. Still, in many cases, having it translated directly in the Czech Republic can also be a valid and convenient solution.

Review: I contacted this company for assistance with legalizing a marriage certificate issued in Prague. Arkadiy promptly clarified what needed to be done for the document to be accepted by the migration authorities in China – we settled on obtaining an apostille. For the apostille process, I sent the original document to Prague, everything arrived without issues, and Arkadiy processed the apostille as quickly as possible before sending it back to me. The migration office accepted the document without any problems (I only needed to add a Chinese translation). I highly recommend this firm, the processing time was minimal, I checked other companies, and their estimated processing times were 2-3 times longer. Thank you so much for your help!
